My husband was in Seton recently for a week due to a serious complication from chemotherapy. He experienced good care, but one nurse was exceptional. Maddie Longtin has such a caring and professional attitude, not only toward the patient, but also the family. She knew each of us by name. We asked her about her long hours, and her response was that she didn't consider what she does as "work." She just loves helping and caring for people.
Being a good nurse means that you take care of your patients by giving them their medication and caring for their medical needs. What's not taught in nursing school comes from within, that attitude of love for the patient and their family. That is the quality Maddie has.
During our stay, my husband's brother died. It was sudden and unexpected. Maddie was very compassionate and understanding. She took personal time after her shift was over to look at family pictures of my husband's brother. This meant a lot to him. She also waited after her shift for me to return from dinner just to tell me good-bye and give me a hug. The love for her patients is very genuine and heartfelt.
