She is known for her sense of humor and injecting this into her interactions with patients. By making patients laugh, she able to lighten the mood and reduce anxiety in a stressful moment of a patient’s life.
Lori is an incredibly hard worker. She always puts patient care first and is hands-on helping staff. She takes on a lot of responsibility as charge and does not fail the department and her co-workers when we need help.

Lori has been a nurse in our ED for over 13 years. During her time with us, she has been a tremendous asset to the team. She is frequently recognized for exceptional teamwork. She often picks up shifts to ensure improved coverage. Her peers comment on how she constantly stays busy, whether she is checking in with them or ensuring the department is in a state of readiness. She has worked just about every shift and transitioned to be a full-time charge nurse last year. With her strong work ethic, she has led the team to keep things moving in the right direction. Most of our new grads start on nights. She has been a great support to them as they transition to independent practice. Because these new nurses often have many questions, she is a resource to them, making herself available to provide guidance or help with new experiences. They have come to trust Lori because she is approachable and kind when they need help.

In addition to working well with the team, Lori is also focused on ensuring patients have a great experience in the ED.

She is known for her sense of humor and injecting this into her interactions with patients. By making patients laugh, she able to lighten the mood and reduce anxiety in a stressful moment of a patient’s life. She is also willing to go the extra mile when someone needs it. For example, a mother called looking for her son’s belongings after he passed away in the ED. Although Lori wasn’t working when that occurred, she took it upon herself to search high and low for the items, as well as make multiple calls to others involved in trying to find them. This mother was comforted to know someone cared enough to go through the extra effort when others might have stopped at just a quick check of the room. She had mentioned how she really felt like this mother needed a little extra TLC in this situation, and she could put herself in the mother’s shoes to see why this was so important to her. These are just a few reasons why Lori is an excellent candidate for the DAISY Award.
