She is a stellar nurse-the kind of nurse that even clinician should aim to be with a skill set that anyone would want the person caring for them to have.
I would like to start off by saying that the entire CVICU nursing and direct care team are a group of a kind. skilled, wonderful nurses who are always pleasant and available to patients and staff at a moment's notice. However, one particular nurse goes above and beyond each and every day that she is here to not only act as a role model for other nurses, but the ultimate patient advocate for clients and families in their most vulnerable time of need. As a new employee, I watched Lisa Ott care for a critically ill patient, who had arrived at her unit after a trans-Atlantic flight which left the patient severely sick with a poor prognosis. Each day that I would round on the unit to see how the patient and family were doing Lisa would be seated right outside of the patient's door watching his every move and just making sure that he looked comfortable. When the patient's condition began to decline, she immediately reached his family so that they could be at his bedside. She did all of this with the grace and compassion that you would expect from any critical care nurse. I have never seen her in a bad mood, and she always has a beaming smile on her face. No gesture is ever too small for her-she goes to Costco to buy snacks for her peers and visitors. She lends a helping hand to anyone in need. And she is a fervent advocate for those at their most trying times. She is a stellar nurse-the kind of nurse that even clinician should aim to be with a skill set that anyone would want the person caring for them to have. I nominate her for The DAISY Award based on all that I have witnessed in my short time here as a nurse leader.
