When my father-in-law, K, was diagnosed with brain cancer in May 2019, our family could never imagine that in May 2020 we would be without him. What we also couldn't have imagined was the excellent care he would get at NKCH. As an employee being on the family side of the care, I am truly humbled. What we also didn't know is that Lindsey would provide extraordinary care and be a shining light in our journey. She first cared for K in October 2019 and laughed with us as K donned a lovely Patrick Mahomes headband/wig. K told me then, Lindsey is good, really good.
Lindsey cared for K on 5 when he was dying in March of this year. I know that no other nurse could have done it with the compassion, empathy, and tenderness that she did. Lindsey was always checking on K (and us) and keeping us all up to date. Lindsey cried with us. She was human with us and real and that's something that isn't taught in nursing school. It must have been difficult for Lindsey to see this process and to watch us grieve but she never once lost that smile or bright spirit! I have no doubt that K wanted her to be his nurse the Saturday that he passed, actually, she was his nurse several times that week and even made a special trip to check on him on her day off. Seeing her provide such good care and knowing she was there when we weren't around provided us so much comfort. K trusted her, with his life really and so did we.
"Thank you" doesn't seem like enough when it comes to Lindsey, but it's the very least she deserves for her incredible presence and nursing skills during such a heartbreaking time. Thank you, Lindsey, for being extraordinary.

Lindsey is a truly exceptional nurse. She really made a connection with K and his family. She did her best to help them all through this difficult time. Lindsey put her heart into the care she provided to them from day one until the end. I am grateful she was his nurse and was able to support them all with her grace and compassion.
