Leeanne Odum has taken the time to go above and beyond for one of our long-term patients and her husband. The patient's story starts shortly after she and her husband were married on the beach, when she was diagnosed with a debilitating neurological condition that left her with multiple medical issues. Unfortunately, she and her husband had to celebrate their first wedding anniversary here in the hospital. In addition to working full time, raising four children, taking classes to complete her BSN, and preparing for the CCRN certification exam, Leeanne went out of her way to make their first anniversary as special as she could.
As a surprise for the patient's husband, Leeanne brought in a card, seashells, glass bowls filled with sand, and battery operated candles to decorate the room and make a table setting with beachy decor since their wedding had been on the beach. She also used extra scraps of vent tubing to make curlers for the patient's hair and set it the night before so she would have soft curls when her husband arrived on the evening of their anniversary. On top of that, she bought flowers, baked their favorite cheesecake, did the patient's makeup so she would feel beautiful, and bought her a special cute nightgown which she personally altered so it would have an open back and accommodate our needs for accessibility in the ICU. The patient was so grateful and her husband was surprised when he arrived.
Leeanne did all of this out of the kindness of her heart. On top of being a great employee, she is also caring and giving outside of the hospital. She showed such kindness with the patient and this is truly an extension of who she is as a human being - not expecting any recognition or praise for going above and beyond. Leeanne went well above and beyond for this patient and would do the same for others without question.
