She was so helpful and went above and beyond, I called her many times after business hours and am so thankful she was able to provide comfort to our family.
CANCER is never a word that anyone wants to hear. When my mom was diagnosed it was devastating, my mind was all over the place. I thought of all the things that are planned in the future, of the daily calls that might not happen, and man, how am I going to tell her grandkids that love her to the moon and back?

After my mom’s diagnosis, I called Laurie Rudolf, our breast cancer navigator. I asked all the questions, and she had all the answers. Dr. Google has nothing on her!! She took me step by step explaining what all the oncology lingo was and what to expect as the treatment plan and what questions to ask.

After talking with Laurie multiple times, we decided the best treatment plan would be to bring my mom down here (from NY) and have surgery and treatment. It was the right decision, any questions I had I went to Laurie, she helped us with scheduling appointments and diagnostic workups. She was so helpful and went above and beyond, I called her many times after business hours and am so thankful she was able to provide comfort to our family.

Now that I have expressed my extreme gratitude as a family member, I have many other reasons for this award to go to Laurie for professional reasons. Laurie is an active participant in our partners council through nursing shared governance. She shows up every month and volunteers to help at all our partners events. For our community drives, she is always willing to drive to the location of need and drop off our donated items. She has dropped off items to carry to full term, the Haymarket pantry, and to SERVE. She is always present to collect items and is an active part of nurse’s week activities. I am grateful for her dedication to our profession and her willingness to help. She is also an advocate for patients in our facility. Just recently she helped a young woman dying of breast cancer’s family pay their mortgage through an organization, three sisters. She is also active in the IIB breast cancer organization and delivers the pink baskets to our breast cancer surgery patients at HAMC and PWMC. Please consider this nomination for this amazing nursing and human being!
