After my brother was diagnosed with cancer, he began a type of chemotherapy that brought him into the hospital frequently. Either for treatment or side effects. Overall, he probably spent 12-15 weeks hospitalized over the course of a year. He got to know many nurses very well, but Laurie made a point of getting to know him, and eventually, I got to know Laurie also. Because I work at Munson, I ran into Laurie frequently and she always took the time to ask me how my brother was doing. Her genuineness and compassion were a great encouragement. As my brother's cancer progressed and he became sicker, Laurie empathized with us and listened to my fears. She advocated for my brother to his Oncologist and other providers. She acknowledged what a scary time this was for him. Laurie even planned to visit him at the hospice house the day she returned from vacation. By building a relationship with both my brother and myself, Laurie gave us room to start healing even before my brother passed. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the great kindness and care you show your patients.
