... Laurie is always caring, kind and compassionate with her patients. She particularly shines when she is responsible for the "difficult" patient or family member, because she is consistently extra kind and caring with those who sometimes elicit frustration from staff members with their behavior or situation.

Laurie was the care nurse for a young woman who had lost a pregnancy, resulting in a surgical procedure. This patient had quite a set of unfortunate circumstances in her life, both environmental and medical, in addition to the loss that brought her to the hospital. Some of the factors surrounding this patient could have caused staff to be "standoffish" or judgemental, but Laurie was quite the opposite in a very genuine, lovely way. Her genuine compassion, tenderness and accepting attitude with this young woman and her boyfriend was evident from the beginning to the end of the patient's stay. She showed extraordinary kindness to a patient in need, one who might have been judged harsly by some. Laurie was also concerned that this patient and family member did not have food in the house upon discharge. She went to her locker, took her personal "stash" of chicken noodle soup, prepared it and sent them home with 2 big "to go" cups of soup, hot and ready to eat.

Laurie represents CHS in a wonderful, positive way with her patients, because her compassion is real. She deserves to be recognized for her extraordinary kindness.
