Laura went to the patient's apartment to pick up a bag of belongings that a friend had prepared for her. The patient was so thrilled to have some of her comforts from home.
Laura worked hard all day on Friday to prepare for a weekend discharge. The patient was extremely anxious about discharging to a new nursing home. Laura made sure everything was taken care of, even went above and beyond to make sure the patient's dog would be cared for. She surprised us all when she arrived back at the unit at 7 pm. Laura said she went to the patient's apartment to pick up a bag of belongings that a friend had prepared for her. The patient was so thrilled to have some of her comforts from home. Laura was even able to tell her she met her dog. Laura's incredible act of kindness made a hard transition that much easier. This is the exceptional care that we strive to provide as Sanford Nurses.

We had a situation with a patient during my service at Broadway. Laura has demonstrated excellent professionalism and empathy to the team and all patients she cared for and interacted with throughout the week. I was amazed when told Laura came back at 7 pm on a Friday after picking up clothes and necessary items for a patient. She did this after discussing it with the patient and this made the patient feel at ease and helped facilitate the transition. This act of kindness is worth recognizing.
Note: This is Laura's 2nd DAISY Award!
