I was in a car accident and had to have an emergency C-section. I was only 29 weeks and they took him to a completely different hospital. I met a nurse, Larissa, the next day, first thing in the morning. She had the brightest smile and I immediately felt comfortable. Well, as comfortable as I can get, given the situation. She showed me and helped me with breastfeeding. I didn't feel like I could handle it, but she cheered me on the entire stay as I was pumping. Even though I can't physically breastfeed my newborn, she made me feel as though I am doing the best thing for my 29-week baby in the NICU. She worked every day of my hospital stay and had an answer to everything I asked. She made me feel like none of my questions were ridiculous, even though I felt like they were, once I heard myself say it out loud. I know it's her job, but she made me feel as though she was part of my support system. I needed that. It wasn't fake smiles and laughs either. She genuinely is an amazing person and caregiver. There's not too many of those left in this world. What I thought would be the most miserable, awful hospital stay, ended up being just easy enough to feel like I'll make it through. Even though, my new little baby was so far away. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to know her. This woman is some kind of special. Thanks so much.
