I need to tell you the wonderful experience my son, my husband, and I received at the hands of your ER department, but mainly the care he received on 3T. I picked up my son at UC and quickly realized something was wrong. He was having debilitating headaches, he had been throwing up, and his mental status was definitely altered. My husband and I decided to take him to the ER immediately. Your emergency department was amazing. They attended to him and Dr. K suggested after all of the other tests she did came back negative that my son should have a spinal tap to rule out meningitis. Well, much to our dismay the test came back positive. I was very impressed with the PA that worked with R, the nurses, and the doctor. They talked to him, but also included us in the decisions that needed to be made. After hours in the ER, R was admitted around midnight and was placed on 3T. When R arrived in his room he was extremely disoriented and anything he tried to talk about made absolutely no sense. Thank goodness he fell asleep for the rest of the night.
The next morning, my husband and I met who we believe to be one of if not your finest nurse your hospital has. Her name is Laila. She cared for my son as if he was her own child. She sat with him, she talked to him, she talked with us, and she made sure he ate. I felt like he was her priority, but I am sure she made all of her patients feel that way. Nevertheless, it was my son she was caring for and I was comforted knowing she cared so much. Then on Monday, she worked again until 3:00. We were once again blessed with her compassion, concern, and excellent nursing skills that she showed toward our son. She was nothing less than perfect and I truly believe she went over and above what a nurse's responsibility is.
On Wednesday, Laila was back and she continued her compassion, consideration, generosity and overall willingness to help R get better. She never ceased to amaze me at how much she cared for R. I feel Laila truly made the difference in R's recovery.
Without a doubt, Laila went over and above what I feel her job required. She is truly an amazing and wonderful person. My son, my husband, and I will never forget what she has done for us. Not only the excellent care for R but making sure my husband and me were okay as well. Since R has left the hospital, she has checked on him several times. She is a role model to all of your nurses and should be commended for the work she does. I truly believe when you are blessed with people in your life who make a difference, everyone should know about it.
