Kim was so compassionate and caring. She soothed our fears.
I would like to share our story and tell you why Nurse Kim is so outstanding! Her care and compassion for my husband was so refreshing and genuine. This was the 3rd time he was being admitted to a hospital in a 6 week period, and his first at Evangelical. (It has been said the third time is a charm!) We agree! The care he received was superior to other hospitals! The ER Nurses and doctors were excellent. They kept us informed at all times. He was admitted through the ER on a Friday evening with a temperature of 102.6. He had had chemo earlier in the day and I could not get the fever to come down. The ER doctor admitted him and he was taken to the 4th floor where Kim was his nurse. G was so very ill, and we still had no answers as to what was causing the fever and infection. We were scared! Kim was so compassionate and caring. She soothed our fears. She explained all the tests and the procedures. She reassured us that the doctor taking care of G was an excellent doctor. (We totally agree) She answered so many questions (we asked a lot), and if she didn't have an answer she called the doctor. Kim kept us updated. She never once told us "That's not my job". She brought G water, heated blankets, washcloths to wipe his face down because of fever, and ginger ale, all with a smile and while taking care of other patients. This nurse LOVES what she does it is not just a job! Every time something good would happen, she would cheer G on. When he was so discouraged and would not eat, Kim told him all about pizza with pepperoni and how delicious it was.. it wasn't long after that conversation he wanted to try and eat something (I am so grateful for that conversation). When G was in pain she was right there with medication, asked about our kids and grandchildren, and showed such interest. It was just what he needed. Kim made such a difference for us at a really scary time. I really hope the younger nurses learn from her example. Kim follows doctors' orders, treats the sickness, BUT she connects with the patient. I feel because of Kim's care my husband kept fighting. Thank you! Thank you!
