In less than 4 years, Kim has developed the communication skills and compassion of someone with much more experience. Kim's communication style also makes her a natural teacher to peers; something she does without offending them or making them feel insecure. One peer said of her that while she is "not a clinical teacher, she teaches staff new ways to do things or new perspectives on things." She also prides herself on teamwork and providing quality care. She continually exhibits professional and collaborative behavior and teamwork. She is a great "team player, who consistently asks if she can help others." She shows up to work on time always and accepts her patient assignment without complaint. She is thorough in her handoffs at shift change, both as an on-coming nurse and off-going nurse. She talks about other team members in a positive way to patients, giving them confidence in other team members.
Kim frequently deals with patients who are both medically and mentally compromised, which can be difficult. She can be found "walking and talking with agitated patients who are not assigned to her". She makes good eye contact and has genuine listening skills, gaining patients' and peers' trust. She has a calm demeanor that helps de-escalate patients in crisis and she follows through on what she promises them. Peers describe her as someone who "goes above and beyond in her level of caring" and is "kind and able to see the good side of everyone". She will follow up on patients' needs and requests, providing a high level of customer service to patients. She is a pleasure to work with and always positive and hard working.
A higher level of care really is more than just words and Kim makes it happen every day.
