Khen never said "this is not my patient", he simply showed grace and compassion and was ultimately the reason this patient was able to transfer as soon as able.
Khen went above and beyond helping a patient get to Stanford Pediatric Hospital. Khen answered an overhead paged for help on a Friday evening @ 1645. Khen was working as an RNCC at the time in the ED. He quickly returned my call, gathered information, made several phone calls, place multiple notes in the patient's chart, collaborated with the ANS for her assistance, and generally went the extra mile to ensure we gathered all the necessary information and paperwork to transfer this patient as soon as possible. Considering this was a Friday evening, Khen's diligent work afforded this writer a chance to gather paperwork and radiology reports, as well as chart information to all needed information ready when the time came for the patient to transfer. Further, throughout the weekend Khen answered phone calls from Stanford, the patient's family, and myself, even though this was not one of his assigned patients. Khen never said "this is not my patient", he simply showed grace and compassion and was ultimately the reason this patient was able to transfer as soon as able. Khen's hard work and commitment to his role as a discharge planner helped this patient and their family have a plan in place and know that we are all working to help the patient get the further care they need.
