Katlyn is very concerned about the outcome of her patients. She gets multiple compliments from patients and their family members.
Katlyn Peden is indeed an extraordinary nurse. Katlyn goes above and beyond each shift to make sure all 33 patients on the floor receive excellent care. Katlyn has picked up a shift almost every pay period since last fall to help cover open shifts. She is always looking out for her coworkers and always offers a helping hand whether it be helping with a patient who is not doing well, running a code, bathing a patient, drawing labs, starting IVs, or helping with discharges, she will do whatever she can to ensure her coworkers shift goes smoothly. She is flexible and has shifted her “normal rotation” days around every week in order to fill the gaps and work the days most needed. She has never once complained. She is compassionate about all of her patients.

Recently we had a patient in her 20s who had been hospitalized for a couple of weeks, she was very weak and was basically bed and wheelchair-bound due to her diagnosis. The patient had been asking all day to get in the shower to wash her hair. It was not an easy task to get the patient up, but Katlyn put herself in the patient’s position. She knew as a 20 something year old that she want to get up and have her hair washed. She told me that she was determined to get the patient up in the shower so the patient could feel better. After brainstorming and coming up with a couple of different ideas, she made it happen. The patient got her shower and hair washed as she had wanted.  Katlyn is very concerned about the outcome of her patients. She gets multiple compliments from patients and their family members. She does a great job of communicating and keeping her patients informed. She is also a great mentor and preceptor. She has recently trained a few new nurses. She holds her precepts to a very high standard, and they have all came out of orientation very knowledgeable and well equipped. She stays late and makes sure the night shift is situated and settled before she leaves them. Patient safety is always her priority. She is a great advocate for the patients and communicates well with physicians. We are lucky to have such a great nurse and leader on 5T!
