My wife and I were having the worst night anyone can have. We came to the ER after my wife started to have bleeding, little did we know she was starting to have her second miscarriage. The ER was packed with multiple ambulances coming in during the 6 hours that we were there. We were brought back right at shift change. Our RN Katie popped in right away at the start of her shift to say hi, ask if we or my wife needed anything at all. Katie would come back and check on us about every 20-30 mins giving us updates as we were waiting on an ultrasound. Katie tried to move us up the list as she knew we were already at the ER for 2.5 hours before being brought back. After we came back from ultrasound and we received the worst news of our lives that our baby was no longer alive at 14 weeks. Katie came and sat beside my wife and explained everything in detail. She also went out of her way to get emotional support group information to my wife. Katie also took the time to not let tons of doctors and other staff come in and out of the room after we received the news. Katie even took the time to draw my wife's blood instead of just having a tech come in and do it. Katie and the doctor were the only ones who came in and out afterward. Katie took the time to get us out of the ER after receiving this news as she knew we just wanted to go home and grieve. This day in age, there aren't many people like Katie who have that bedside manner, taking the time to get to know patients and actually be caring and compassionate. I wish I could give higher praise and do more.
