While this was no doubt a team effort to save his life, it was Katherine's clinical skills and voice which I firmly believe changed his outcome.
I want to reach out to recognize Katherine Sanborn. Yesterday, one of her patients had an unanticipated event that evolved quickly leading to respiratory and then cardiac arrest. While this was no doubt a team effort to save his life, it was her clinical skills and voice which I firmly believe changed his outcome. She contacted the Trauma Surgeon that his status changed and was now in respiratory distress which can be part of a normal day in the ICU; however, she made it clear this was different. TS arrived with his partner in minutes. By the time they entered the room he had completely occluded his airway. TS began compressions while his partner completed an emergent bedside Cric, a life saved all within minutes! In all my years of ED, ICU, etc., this was really the most phenomenal save, and quite possibly the only one she may hopefully see in her career. We completed a debrief as a team today in the ICU; out of this we have more thank you’s to include the team that stocks the cabinets along with couple of action items to further fine-tune equipment/process. Great work being done!
