My brother has cancer and was scheduled for surgery at Madigan on the morning of August 27 2015, and my wife and I flew in from Kansas to support him and his wife during his surgery and recovery. On our way into the hospital that morning I wasn't watching where I was going and tripped over one of the cement barriers in the parking lot, taking a pretty hard fall. Kate to the rescue! She too was walking into the hospital to start her shift, happened to see me fall and was the only one who rushed over to help. She took command of the situation, assessed my injuries (minimal), helped me to my feet and escorted me to an exam room in her clinic where she personally assessed, cleaned and dressed my skinned knees and elbows, gave me an ice pack and insisted on taking me to the ER to be checked over. She did all of this quickly, calmly and kindly. I know she had other duties to attend to, but she never showed the stress. And though I am not military or a beneficiary she made sure that I was well taken care of. After she was assured that I was in good condition, she personally escorted my wife and me to my brother's hospital room so we could reconnect with him before his surgery.

Thank you Kate for taking an extremely stressful day and not only keeping it from being more stressful but turning it around completely with your calm, competent and sunny demeanor. I won't ever forget your kindness.
