The whole process, Katie's kind words, and gentle touch made him feel comfortable and he was able to rest.
We were on 7 North, I was with my 94-year-old father. We had just been told that Palliative Care was the best option for Dad and I was struggling with making the decision to move forward with Palliative Care. My dad was very agitated, restless, and trying to get out of bed to go to the bathroom. Katie noticed we needed some help when she walked past the room - she was not his nurse but stopped what she was doing and helped calm dad down. She just talked to him and reassured him that everything was going to be all right and getting him to stay in bed and making sure he was safe. He really wanted to use the bathroom even though he had just gone. She helped him use the urinal so he felt normal. The whole process, her kind words, and gentle touch made him feel comfortable and he was able to rest. She talked with me and helped me weigh the option of Palliative so I could make a decision I was comfortable with. In addition, she stopped multiple times during the night to make sure we were comfortable and resting.
It was a difficult night and Katie helped to get us through and I will not forget how well she treated me and my dad - she knew what we needed and was there for us.
