Katie brought me food I was craving, taught me how to crochet, printed out coloring pages all to help me keep busy while I felt so isolated.
My birth experience at West Allis was not what I had planned in any way. I was in the hospital 5 weeks prior to having my son and had him six weeks early and all through a pandemic. I couldn't have visitors for the first few weeks besides my husband who had to care for our four-year-old. Katie was my nurse for the very first day and she was an Angel throughout my whole experience. The day I was admitted I received a very scary diagnosis and was terrified. She was kind, patient, and assured me that my baby and I were in good hands. Throughout my stay, she went above and beyond. She brought me food I was craving, taught me how to crochet, printed out coloring pages all to help me keep busy while I felt so isolated. When she was my nurse I knew I was going to have a good day. Even when I wasn't her patient she always made a point to stop in during or after her shift to keep me company. She advocated for me when I had questions or concerns and it made me feel so comfortable. I was lucky enough to have her there with me during my C-section. She held me while I received my spinal and held my hand when I was scared. She was like family to me during a time that I couldn't see mine due to visitor restrictions. I can't thank her enough for everything she did for me and my family. She truly went above and beyond. I will never forget her and she will always be a part of the birth story of our sweet baby boy.
