This message comes to you in a very sensitive time for our family as we remember the passing of our baby girl one week ago today. My wife was 34 weeks pregnant when we found out our little girl went on to be with the Lord on Friday. We tasted the goodness of God through a bittersweet moment that day. Our best friends gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. By our friend's side was my wife. My wife felt our baby girl kick that night. She went home, went to bed and woke up at 8 to go to our scheduled 9 am appointment with Dr. C for a normal checkup. I left work at 8:30 to meet her and our 9-year-old son there. Shortly after we were met with Dr. C, we received the news that our baby girl's heart had stopped sometime that early morning. Our lives would never be the same. The hours after leaving the doctor's office were the most painful and gut-wrenching hours of our lives. Yet with so much sorrow, we found comfort in the promises of God and His Sovereignty. We shared with family and friends and immediately were surrounded by love and prayers. We were admitted later that night into St. Rose Sienna campus hospital and to our surprise, our friends' nurse was there, ready to be our nurse. She found out earlier that day through that we had lost our baby, so when the nurses were in their huddle and offered up the job to care for a mother who needed to give birth to a stillborn baby, she didn't hesitate and volunteered to serve us. When my wife saw she was our nurse, she was excited because she had already connected with her. She was meant to be our nurse. At every turn, she was there. Whatever we needed, she was on point with gentleness and urgency. Friday night turned into Saturday morning and considering our nurse couldn't work 24 hours straight she had to have a replacement to care for us throughout the day. That's when we met Kathie Derrick. It was as if our nurse transferred all of her kindness, love and care over to Kathie and Kathie served us without fail all the way through delivery. Through the mourning, we found gladness and healing. As we praise God for the joy He has given us through this storm, we want to acknowledge two women who made this transition as easy and smooth as it could be.
