Karla taking that 10 minutes to talk to me meant the world.
My grandmother-in-law was admitted to Beverly Hospital which was different from her care plan. Her nurse practitioner was at her home to give a referral for hospice and felt she was not safe at home. Nana was angry. I spoke to a case manager and her nurse and was working on getting hospice on board.

Unfortunately, I got the call from the house doctor that she had taken a turn for the worse. We rushed to the hospital but did not get there in time. Her nurse was helping me through the process. When Karla was coming on duty and was told Nana had passed, she took the time out of her going on duty stuff to come to speak to me. The night before she had sat with Nana for a while. Listening to her. She told me what Nana had said. It was like hearing from Nana herself. The words were all that Nana would have said.

Hearing all that Nana said to Karla made me know she was at peace. Karla taking that 10 minutes to talk to me meant the world. Even though she was 92 it was not expected for her to pass that quickly. The fact that there were no medications and machines were used like we asked was amazing. What made it even better was knowing that a wonderful nurse was with her. It made us feel better about not being able to make it to the hospital in time to see Nana for the last time. I wanted to let everyone know that Karla the evening nurse was amazing and really was there for our family when we couldn’t be. Thank you for everything.
