Ms. Julie Twohig has been a home health nurse for 16 years. During her 3 year tenure with UMC HHS, Julie has consistently demonstrated all of the defining characteristics of A Daisy Award receipient.
Ms. Twohig has routinely demonstrated exceptional assissment and clinical skills. In a number of instances, she has averted an acute re-hospitalization of her patient by providing early interventions for a changing patient status. In these situations, she was able to effect a positive patient outcome, not only by application of her clinical skills, but also by her professional communication with other members of the health care team. Her level of clinical expertise has earned her the respect of the Home Health clinical staff and they trust her with the care of their patients in their absence.
Julie is routinely recognized by the patients themselves (via survey), not only for the quality of her hands-on care, but also for the "caring" manner in which she provides that care. Julie's compassion extends itself to the caregiver/family as well. Part of that compassionate practice is honoring all the patient's needs, and recognizing the most appropriate resource to address them. Julie will appropriately refer the patient to social work for counseling when needed as she appreciated the mental, emotional, and cultural influences on achieving an optimal state of health.
