Julie's assessment and suggestion proved to be excellent and fully on-target.
Tirelessly and with deep compassion, Julie provides excellent patient care as a seasoned nurse. With humor, grace, and professional expertise, Julie also provides impeccable care to parents and families. Just today, Julie was working as Saturday Safety Coach when an infant with a newly diagnosed brain mass and parents were brought for the first time to ETCH during the past evening.

First, Julie went out of her way to inform me of the situation as the in-house chaplain, assessing that these parents might appreciate extra spiritual and emotional support. Julie's "team player" commitment shone as she communicated her assessment, taking time to inform me so I could provide Pastoral Care if welcomed by the parents. Julie's assessment and suggestion proved to be excellent and fully on-target.

Upon my response to the situation, both parents were moved deeply by the genuine hospitality and deep compassion that was provided by the entire ETCH staff. The mother requested prayer, receiving spiritual support while informing that she is "not a very religious person," but would gladly receive prayers for her infant. Julie and her co-worker went the extra mile, later asking the parents if they had eaten, and then providing soup, sandwiches, drinks, and snacks for the parents who had not left their infant's bedside to get food. The infant's mother was moved to tears by the overwhelming kindness demonstrated to her and her husband. This distraught mother had just shared with me (unbeknownst to Julie) that her own Mother's death was in November and now this has made "November... not a good month." The "family-like" care provided so deeply enriched this mother that she shared with me, "This kindness is overwhelming. I'm not used to it, but I am really grateful." Throughout this unfortunate situation, Julie exemplified ETCH's commitment to CORE CARE.
