The patient did not have the means to pay the $2, so Julie offered to pay for it.
Nominated by a peer: Julie went so far above and beyond with a very difficult patient. A patient who was smoking while on O2, burning her face, was found to have also had a stroke. The patient went home, despite apprehension from the family about her coming home, and due to compliance issues, home health care was not an option. The patient had difficulty getting to her follow-up appointments because of a lack of transportation. Julie made it her mission to find her a service that, for $1 each way, patients can get to their doctor’s appointments. The patient did not have the means to pay the $2, so Julie offered to pay for it. She also found a pharmacy service that would go to the patient’s house, help with her medication, and pre-package her meds for compliance. She is currently working on other resources to assist the patient at home. Julie truly went above and beyond to ensure her patient is cared for outside of the hospital.
