When learned that the Tylenol would not be covered, Julie took her lunch break to drive to the pharmacy and pay for the prescription.
Julie is a kind, compassionate nurse who is currently a member of the graduate nurse residency program 2022 cohort B. Julie was asked to write a clinical narrative describing a patient scenario. The story that she shared demonstrated her commitment to not only the RITE values but also to creating an extraordinary experience. Her passion for the patients that she cares for and for supporting the nursing team sets her apart as a new grad.

In her narrative, Julie described a patient that she was providing care for at the clinic. The patient had reached out via the portal to request pharmacy orders for Ibuprofen and Tylenol. Julie contacted the patient to gain some additional information and to assess the patient's needs taking care to address both her physiological pain as well as her psychosocial needs. Julie learned that the patient was experiencing 10/10 pain and was unable to pick up her prescriptions due to financial and transportation hardships. Julie worked to find a pharmacy that was within walking distance of the patient's home and confirmed that a support person would be able to retrieve the medications.

Additionally, Julie worked with the insurance company to ensure that the cost of the prescriptions would be covered. When learned that the Tylenol would not be covered, Julie took her lunch break to drive to the pharmacy and pay for the prescription. Julie followed up with the patient a few hours later and then the next morning to ensure that the patient was having adequate pain control. This story demonstrates Julie's ability to compassionately care for patients while also working to address both physical and social needs. PSHMC is lucky to have Julie on the nursing team.
