Upon delivery of the flowers, Jose took the time to FaceTime the patient and his family from the wife’s bedside.
Where do I begin? I guess I can start by saying you have a jewel in this nurse. He was floated from his home department to the IMU Department recently where he cared for a patient who was significantly anxious because he had been hospitalized with COVID at our facility and his wife was also hospitalized with COVID at a different facility. From this nurse’s initial round in the patient’s room to the end of the shift, the patient was completely different with him. This nurse had a way of really working to calm the patient’s anxiety and fears. It was as though God had sent this nurse to ease everything that this patient was feeling.

This nurse spent a large amount of time with this patient getting to know him and learned that he had been married for 52 years and this was the first time that he and his sweet wife had ever been apart.

This nurse also learned that the couple’s anniversary was coming up over the weekend. The patient frequently talked about how much he missed his wife and how he stared at her picture frequently in his room. As this nurse ended his shift, you could tell his wheels were turning. He took the time to discuss plans with the patient and their family to deliver flowers to the patient’s wife at our sister facility personally to celebrate such a wonderful occasion, 52 years of marriage. This nurse was asked should we get the flowers delivered so he would not have to drive and he declined. He shared that he felt it best that he personally delivered the flowers for his patient.

Upon delivery, Jose took the time to FaceTime the patient and his family from the wife’s bedside. In the end, Jose made what could have been a rather sad anniversary a great one by doing all that he could to make the celebration of 52 years of marriage the best that it could possibly be. The patient, his wife, and the family went on and on about how awesome Jose Angeles is. If they had it their way, Jose would have been their nurse 24 hours/7 days a week for the remainder of the patient's stay.
