He was a very strong advocate when he felt a different plan for the patient was what was needed.
John has been an exceptional nurse in our 8 bed ICU unit but one patient he recently cared for really stands out. We live in a small community so many times we know the patients we are caring for. This patient in particular was well known in our community for his services and had come in very sick. The family was unaware of exactly how sick this man was. John was able to speak to this large family that was quite disconnected in many ways. He brought them together even if the circumstances were not great and extremely grim for this patient. He was a very strong advocate when he felt a different plan for the patient was what was needed. He stayed in touch with the family after the patient went to the medical floor and even after discharge. The patient passed away not long after leaving the hospital and the praise the family gave John was so remarkable.

I am his unit director but every day I see him touch people's lives and make a difference. He was definitely born to be a nurse and has so much compassion for the people he treats every day. We need more nurses like John in this world!!!!

John has been a blessing to the families in the ICU. Post-Covid he has had the ability to enable patients and families to understand their health crisis in terms that our rural population understands. He is very compassionate and caring with end-of-life patients. He works hard to help the patients and their devastated families understand the disease process and assist them in resources for grieving and easing their fears
