I gave her a listening ear and decided to counsel her about the importance of family planning.
Being a Registered Nurse has been more beautiful and rewarding, seeing my patients having the desired care they seek. I have had many experiences in giving care, but the situation that captured my mind as a nurse was a family that could not agree on how to plan the family. It happened that the wife was told not to have any more children because of her health condition. They could not reconcile their disagreement on how the family should be planned. The husband had an issue that the wife should continue to have children, after which the Doctor advised her that her life was deeply involved.

Rendering family planning services in my local community as a nurse, the lady decided to confide in me and to seek my advice or intervention in whatever way I could. I gave her a listening ear and decided to counsel her about the importance of family planning. She got afraid that the husband may take notice and have issues with her. I  asked her to invite the husband to the next visit, to which she consented. During the next visit, she came with her husband. I first established a good rapport between the three of us. Explained a scenario where mothers have died by going against the doctor's advice. Asked him whether he would be happy to see his wife leave him and the children, and then he said, "No." I sincerely explained that the doctor advised his wife not to have any other child or children, which would be harmful to her life.

Moreover, I mentioned family planning benefits and various methods to him. The husband and the wife both agreed to choose a method that would help them not get pregnant. Now, the husband, knowing this very well, said a big thanks to me for helping in the process for his wife to be safe by not taking any risks of having pregnancy. The family became happy again, and the husband has been the one who always reminds or accompanies the wife for her next visit to receive her family planning commodities.
