A patient was unfortunately given a very poor prognosis at a young age. The patient had expressed to one of the nurses the desire to have a wedding and the opportunity to marry her fiancé before she passed. The family had commented that they had been trying to get a wedding together and had dress shopping plans, however, they needed help to make this dream a reality. Illness and hospitalizations unfortunately kept getting in the way.
Janet, with the help of her charge nurse John, had taken it upon themselves to make her wish come true. They called the courthouse and gathered all the necessary information so that the patient's family could get the paperwork together. The room was decorated with bows, angels, vases full of flowers, and draped with layers of pink tulle. A special bouquet of flowers was made for the bride to hold. Dietary prepared a cake for the family to honor the occasion and a reverend came up to perform the ceremony. John and Janet did not hesitate to take the extra time out of their busy day to help make this dream a reality. John and Janet truly exemplified compassionate care in a time of great pain and grief. They both knew that this wedding would create a lasting memory for the patient and family. We believe they whole-heartedly display the characteristics of DAISY Nurses.
