I knew that Irene was making a conscious decision to stop what she was doing in order to get close enough so my grandma could see and hear her.
My grandma is one of those sweet and kind people who loves everyone. As her health has declined, I have watched as more and more caretakers start to see and treat her as an object, not a person. She has received care from several different places including hospitals and rehab care facilities. Oftentimes, caretakers are simply rushed and possibly short-staffed. I understand it is a very hard job, day in and day out. It was so important for me to write this note in order to thank everyone at HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital Highland.

From the time we arrived in the emergency room, everyone was wonderful. They listened to our concerns and did their best to address each and every one of them. Most importantly, they listened and talked to HER!! It means the world to us because Grandma is our world! When I saw the way Irene slowed down to speak and listen at my grandma's pace, I knew that Irene was making a conscious decision to stop what she was doing in order to get close enough so my grandma could see and hear her. Irene explained things ahead of time, so as not to startle my grandma. Irene always helped to brainstorm ways to make grandma extra comfortable, even making recommendations for at home. She is kind to our entire family but, here for her patients and ready to step in, when needed.

One of the hardest things is to experience a loved one slipping into delirium. We are all so thankful for having Irene help us through this awful time. We truly felt comfortable leaving the hospital in order to sleep at home. Thank you all and Thank you, Irene!
