The patient was so happy to be able to return to his regular medication schedule.
Ieshiah was taking care of a patient who came into the hospital for increasing weakness and falls at home. He also had a history of anxiety. Ieshiah was administering medications to the patient. One of his medications was doxepin which is ordered for anxiety and can also be used for insomnia. He asked Ieshiah why he couldn’t have the medication before bed, especially since he had been taking it that way “since 1995”. She told him she would check and if it wasn’t contradicted we would change the timing. He then told us that he had asked for this to be changed for the past two days but was told they could only give it in the morning. He would like an explanation for this. Ieshiah looked up the med and brought it to my attention. We were able to call the pharmacy, able to point out this would be better for this patient at night, and were able to get the change. The patient was so happy to be able to return to his regular medication schedule. He reported that he was able to sleep much better and expressed his gratitude for the care and concern Ieshiah showed for him.
