Holly floated from her home department and brought with her the same compassion she shows every day. She listens to her patients. She truly listens to them, and the patients can feel her authenticity. Her genuine smile is reassuring to everyone.
My family member has been in the hospital for almost a month now with a fluctuating prognosis. Due to debilitating wounds to both of his feet, he has been unable to walk for five months now. This includes even getting up to the chair. He received the grim news that he will need dialysis, but in order to be eligible for an outpatient dialysis chair, he must be able to walk and sit in the chair for the four hours of treatment. This means that he must either walk or accept his demise.
Holly talked with him using her clinical expertise and helped him recognize his drive to live. That morning, she sought out help from fellow staff and assisted him onto the bedside chair. For the first time in five months, he was able to eat breakfast sitting up and not in bed. When he recognized what he accomplished, he thanked her. She responded, "I'm proud of you," and he started to have tears roll down his cheeks. Soon after, the charge nurse walked by the room and found him beaming with joy, pride, and accomplishment.
Holly personifies the mission of CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances because she takes the time to provide compassion and excellent care to her patients. The time she took for him was not that long, but the impact it made on his life is everlasting.
