The ED door opened, and there was Heather; her smile immediately calmed me.
It was just a normal work day until I fell down the stairs in RFH; at that moment, I became the patient.

Everyone was amazing, from the nurses who helped me in the clinic, to Dr. M, in Radiology, and the ED team. Additionally, one nurse who typically is in the active and busy role as the CNO and who was supposed to be on her way to the IHA Meeting in Des Moines stayed back to help in the ED. When I was waiting to be taken back to the ED, I was still confused as to what even happened and shaking as I was nervous and unsure of what was in store. I hadn't called my husband yet because I thought I would be returning to work. The ED door opened, and there was Heather; her smile immediately calmed me. Heather took me back to a room and got me settled, asking questions, explaining everything she was doing, and preparing me for what would happen next. Yes, the fractures were bad, and surgery would more than likely be needed, but Heather's caring ways and compassion just put me at ease.

When my husband and daughter came, she took the time to explain everything to them and answer their questions. Heather assured me I would be okay; she kept me comfortable and always checked on me. She also took the time to call PCI to get a Hand Specialist involved in my care. Heather is an amazing nurse, her caring, kindness and exceptional patient care didn't go unnoticed. When Heather was going to leave for the IHA Conference, she came in to tell me and to assure me again that I would be okay and that I was in good hands. Thank you so much, Heather. You truly are a blessing to RMC as a CNO and as a Nurse who will help out whenever and however it's needed. You are the best!
