His ability to connect with each of us in the way we needed was extraordinary.
Hamzeh Obeid, I am sure that you receive many emails about things that didn't go well or notes about staff who may not have performed as you'd expect. This is a note about a couple of nurses and one amazing cardiologist who cared for "J" during his recent stay at Abbott Northwestern. On Christmas Eve afternoon, "J" was admitted to St. Francis ER with Atrial Fibrillation...the staff at St. Francis was terrific - they very quickly attended to him and tried all they could to help him but determined he needed to go to Abbott. At 12:30 am, they transported him to Abbott Northwestern Heart hospital. Our experience there was extraordinary, especially given it was Christmas day/ weekend. What we later learned from his cardiologist is that "J" was experiencing heart failure and had fluid around his heart/lungs...so many frightening things happening....and blessed with such exceptional care. When I arrived at Abbott at 8 am Christmas Day, there was a nurse in "J's" room named Hamzeh Obeid. There are not enough words to describe this man, but I will share as best I can. Hamzeh was compassionate, caring, VERY knowledgeable, calming, and yet humorous when appropriate. His ability to connect with each of us in the way we needed was extraordinary - Hamzeh was as concerned about me as he was about "J" - such passion for his work, and it came shining through every time he stepped into the room. He was a bright light during some very uncertain days. He shared with us about why he does this work, and we can only tell you that HE is absolutely using his gifts and talents in the right role. He was with us Saturday and Sunday, and we were sorry he wasn't with us on Monday. I'm unsure how to formally recognize him, but I thought I could share with you, and perhaps you can pass it along to his leadership team. Everyone on the cardiac floor 5 did a terrific job, and we are so grateful for each of them. Did I mention, we were blessed to have the most amazing cardiologist....Dr. "K"...again a gift! "J" will continue to see him ongoing - so grateful! It was a Christmas we won't forget....... and thanks to the cardiology team - he is well to enjoy future Christmases! Below is a note that "J" wrote - again not sure how to formally recognize Hamzeh, so I said I'd figure out how to pass along our experience. Abbott is incredibly fortunate to have him, and we were blessed to have him caring for "J!": I was admitted on Christmas Eve for Atrial fibrillation, and they immediately began treating me for this condition. Among those who were there to care for me was a nurse named Hamzeh Obeid. He was amazing in not only sharing his expertise and treatment help but was truly engaged in building a level of trust and care for myself and my wife. His dedication to his work, his love for this work, and his tireless energy was such a strength for us! He had such a calm demeanor and connected to us relationally, and he was 100% present when he was with us. We learned a great deal from him with our questions, and he took whatever time we needed to answer them. As busy as he was on his rounds, we knew he would make sure we were well cared for and made sure the nurse on the next shift was fully aware of my condition and up to date with my records. His level of care and compassion was extraordinary, and there are no words to express my gratitude to / for him.
