Any time she is not here, I feel sad because I miss her.
1) Eva was very helpful and understanding. She was very attentive and very patient with my husband and me.
2) We are on our second round here at Shirley Ryan. We had Eva for a few of those days. She, by far, is the kindest, most compassionate nurse that we have had between our stay at Northwestern hospital and Shirley Ryan. We have been here for 114 days with a lot of medical issues, in and out of intensive care several times. Intubated/extubated 3x’s. It's been a lot. We had so many nurses, but I have to say Eva was the greatest one out of all of them we had. She listened to our concerns, reported them to the doctors, and was so kind to "R" and us. She took care of him like it was her father. She advocated for him. She is going to be a wonderful nurse. When I found out she's only been a nurse for 9 months, I almost fell over! She showed my family and me what a true, kind, and thoughtful nurse she's going to turn out to be through her career. We arrived back at SR twice. I walked in, and we got Eva as our nurse! I was so happy, and so was "R." She had the patience of a saint. Shirley Ryan is so lucky to have her on their team. I nominate her for the DAISY Award. She so deserves it.
3) I came here because I lost my leg. I have been up to six hospitals. I like this hospital; it's world-class. I want to share my stories and appreciation about one special nurse named Eva. One day, as I was depressed and sad, this nurse was making rounds. She knocked at my door and entered my room. She saw me with tears running down my face. She came close and called, "Gabriel, Gabriel, what is the problem?" At first, I did not talk to her, but she kept asking. I told her my problems: that last year I lost my leg, that I am on dialysis, and worst, that my adult children do not care about me (I have four children and eight grandchildren). Eva went and got facial tissue and wiped my face. Since then, she has been paying extra attention to me. E.g., after dialysis, she always checks on me more than anybody else. She rubs cream on my dry foot. When I did not want to eat, she talked and encouraged me to eat. She calls me 'pops.' She treats me like a mother/wife/child. Any time she is not here, I feel sad because I miss her. She is the best nurse. I will truly miss her. I wish her the best of life, and God bless her.
4) Overall impressed with Eva- her professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to clearly explain and listen to the patient. The moment she walks into my room, I know I will be taken care of. Eva was instrumental in helping with the transition to my new reality. She helped me normalize the changes to my body and helped me accept them. Eva conducted the family training session and walked my family step by step in all the details of post-discharge care. She never shows the pressures of her job. I thank Eva and all other nurses that have been part of my care at Abilitylab. Thank you.
