We were comforted and it was easier to let her go knowing she had received outstanding care the last 12 hours of her life from Erika.
My sister-in-law was admitted for comfort care - end-of-life care. The excellent ER staff had begun to get her pain controlled. When she arrived on the care unit, Erica relentlessly treated the pain, breathing difficulty, and probable anxiety with frequent assessments and medication. After 2-3 hours there was obvious relaxation. Fortunately for us, Erica had agreed to do an extra 1/2 shift due to multiple sick calls that day. She was admitted to the floor about 9 am and died about 9 pm - Erica gave sincere, beautiful care that entire time, not only to my sister-in-law but also to all of the numerous visitors she had. Her Spanish was very helpful. It seemed like my sister-in-law was Erika's only patient that day, though I know she wasn't. She had suffered for some time but especially for the previous week. We were comforted and it was easier to let her go knowing she had received outstanding care the last 12 hours of her life. Thank you, Erika. Thank you Swedish First Hill. We are so grateful for the respectful, skilled, compassionate care our beloved C received.
