Emily Roberto is the truest definition of what it means to be a nurse. My son was unenthusiastic about his hospital stay and Nurse Emily displayed tremendous care and compassion towards not only my son but also the rest of my family. She took extra time to talk with my son and reassured him that he would get through his health issue and go on to do great things in his life. Nurse Emily discovered that my son has B+ blood and wrote on his patient board "B (Be) Positive" which bought a smile to his face and helped change his outlook on his hospital stay. She also took the time to ask me as well as other members of my family how we were doing. If we had any questions or requests she did her best to make sure that our concerns were addressed and that our needs were met. It was not about performing a role to complete her routine duties as a nurse. To me, it was Nurse Emily just being her authentic self and loving what she does as a profession. Her profession is second-nature and it shows.
I knew that my son really felt connected with her and it's because of her "bedside manner." He couldn't wait to call and tell me the next day that Nurse Emily was still his attending nurse. Nurse Emily's ability to connect with us in such a genuine way meant the world to us and helped ease a lot of anxiety and tension. I am thankful for her wonderful sense of humor as we all exchanged a few laughs. My family and I feel that nurse Emily deserves to be recognized for all that she does as a nurse.
