This year Emily Lewis, RN will be celebrating 30 years as a nurse, spending her career as a critical care nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Emily is known for her meticulous attention to patient care, always taking extra time to make sure her patients feel a sense of normalcy in a very abnormal situation. In addition to Emily's excellent care, she can be seen volunteering on the unit with Genie and Tucker, her two German Shepherd dogs, providing pet therapy and bringing joy to the patients, families and staff of the SICU. Emily's volunteer work does not end in the SICU. She also participates in Honor Flight. Honor Flight is an organization that celebrates the service of WWII and Korean War veterans by flying them to Washington DC to visit memorials dedicated to their service. She volunteers her time, assisting these men and women throughout the trip, providing a great service to our country's heroes. In the SICU, we are very proud to call Emily one of our own and would love to honor her and her accomplishments.

...

I worked in SICU for a little more than 2 years with a nurse named Emily Lewis. She gives above and beyond to all of her patients. She starts her day how she is going to make a difference with her 84,600 seconds. She cares for every patient and family member like they are part of her family. I have seen her give many hugs. I have seen her shed a tear as well caring for patients. I have never met a nurse with more empathy. She not only cares for her patient assignment in this manner, but other nurses assignments as well. If her time allows, she will wash every patient's hair in the pod. She shampoos, conditions, and blow dries the patient's hair. I saw a particular patient who always looked distressed, smile for the first time when Emily washed her hair. Emily is a lovely person and nurse. I hope that I can take a piece her with me for the rest of my career. I am proud to say I have worked with her and she is my friend.
