This student embodies the characteristics of a DAISY Award recipient. They are both compassionate and skilled, traits that The DAISY Foundation highlights as critical. There are countless stories of their time at SFA that would speak to their deserving of this award. They are consistently devoted to becoming the best nurse ever. They go above and beyond to connect with their patients. Many nursing students go through their entire program without having to care for a patient at the end of life. This student was faced with multiple instances of devastating cases during their time as a student. Each time, they persevered through the challenges these situations bring for nurses and sought to provide their patients with excellent care. They understood, even as a student, the value of therapeutic presence, and they walked alongside several families on the worst days of their lives. They continued to find their smile on the worst days, choosing to use these hard days as a reminder that this profession is indeed the one for them. This student is going into the nursing profession fully aware of the highs and lows the role brings and will be a light to so many on dark days.
