Ensuring that patients are taken care of whether they are "our patients" or not is a consistent theme with Liz and we continue to be so very thankful for her commitment to patient-centered care.
Liz is constantly going above and beyond for the patients she interacts with. The dynamic nature of the general surgery clinic makes for challenging days filled with unpredictable and complex situations. One of these particular situations was recently handled by Liz in a compassionate and patient-centered manner.

A patient with end-stage cancer needed some assistance with a dressing change. The patient was recently life-flighted to Anchorage and is now back in Fairbanks but was unsure of how to change a dressing around an indwelling tube. The cancer treatment center was also a little unsure of the appropriate process and called our office for advice. Liz offered to call the patient directly and discuss what supplies he has at home and if he would like to come to our office for further education and supplies. Liz called the patient and during the conversation over the phone, Liz noticed how short of breath the patient was and realized that getting to our clinic would be quite difficult for the patient. She asked him when the next time he planned to be at the cancer treatment clinic and if she could meet him over there with supplies and anything else he might need to be able to rest better at home.

The insight and consideration Liz had for a patient who was not "technically" a patient of our clinic is something that is both heartwarming and commendable. Ensuring that patients are taken care of whether they are "our patients" or not is a consistent theme with Liz and we continue to be so very thankful for her commitment to patient-centered care.
