Elinor was compassionate, kind, and warm. I was especially appreciative that she listened to and reflected on my feelings.
I came into the hospital after having a sudden cardiac arrest in the terminal at Reagan National Airport. In addition to my cardiac issues, I tested positive for COVID. While I was asymptomatic, my positive status meant that I couldn’t have visitors. I was alone, deeply concerned about my daughter who witnessed my arrest, and facing a frightening group of unknowns about my health. By the grace of God, I arrested in front of a doctor and a nurse. By the goodness of God, I had Elinor as my day nurse through three long and lonely days of isolation. When my procedure was delayed, she called repeatedly to get updates. When she had a few moments not filled with her other patients she came and talked to me. She was compassionate, kind, and warm. As a mental health counselor, I was especially appreciative that she listened to and reflected on my feelings. In the hectic work of a hospital during a pandemic she helped me to feel seen, understood, and encouraged. I am deeply grateful to have had her as my nurse.
