We were admitted to the PICU after discovering that our daughter had a very large, rare and life threatening brain tumor. She underwent several complicated surgeries during our initial 9 night stay in the PICU. Dorothy Horgan went above and beyond to care for not only our daughter, but also me and my wife. She was our daughter's nurse for much of our time spent in the PICU.
During this time of crisis, Dorothy treated us with compassion and kindness. She was amazing and provided us and our daughter with the best care. She answered all of our questions and was extremely prompt in addressing our daughter's evolving needs, as she underwent three brain surgeries in a seven day time period. She went out of her way to explain everything to us. During this time, our daughter was intubated and had an EVD. She also had major surgery to resect her tumor, leaving her with no control of her head and no movement on her left side. Saying that we were traumatized is a gross understatement. Dorothy did everything she could to comfort us, and make us feel like we were people who mattered and our daughter was not just a science experiment. She helped us bathe her and change her clothes as well as helped us with holding her, which was a great feat given all of her tubes, especially the drain coming out of her brain. She helped us to feel more confident in picking her up and holding her when we were so unbelievably distraught and unsure of everything. Thank you Dorothy.
