Denise oriented me to my new unit through strange COVID times. She is always perfect with every patient she encounters.
Denise has really worked hard on preparing the OR for our magnet meetings. I have watched Denise spend a lot of time going through research, updating info for the employees, and asking us potential questions. She also has spent hours at home on her days off working on magnet information. I have heard that the OR staff has done well with the magnet interaction, and it really is thanks to Denise!
Denise has made this her passion and it shows.

Denise goes above and beyond with every patient every time. This particular situation while bringing a patient back to the OR the patient was very nervous to where she was crying. Denise asked what music the patient liked to listen to or what her favorite song was. The patient told her and Denise called anesthesia to have that song play when they entered the room. The lady started giggling sighed and thanked everyone. She said she felt so much better and knew we were going to take great care of her. It was such a sweet gesture that I have adopted that for my patients who seem extremely nervous.

Denise oriented me to my new unit through strange COVID times. She is always perfect with every patient she encounters. Denise is a good role model for brand new and slightly new nurses. The specific instance that sticks out to me is when we had to bring a new mother, who just delivered a stillborn baby, to the OR for emergency surgery due to retained placenta. It was my case as I was already off orientation at this time, but Denise volunteered to help me go get the patient and bring her to the OR. She was a calming presence in the OB room due to her background. I would not have handled the situation nearly as well as I have little experience with traumatic births. Denise helped that family that day and showed me how to react in that situation if/when it happens again. She is a great nurse, co-worker, teammate, and person!
