I nominate Debbie Myers for the DAISY Award. First of all, Debbie inspired me to become a nurse. Her passion, dedication and love for her patients is over and beyond.

Debbie took care of a patient in his 30s with Cardiomyopathy. He has been ill all his life, in and out of hospitals. He has small children, a wife and mother living with him. Deb would call him every day to check his weight and assess him to try and keep him out of the hospital. He was a very loveable person and he and Deb developed a wonderful friendship. He trusted her and I think it gave him strength to push on harder to live longer.

On Christmas he was crying due to not having money for children's presents. Deb took it upon herself to buy his children presents. Deb also directed them to resources in the community to help with their needs. Many times after hours Deb spent checking on him at home. He died 2 years ago at age 38. The family shared his ashes with Deb that sits on her desk today. Deb said "Now he can watch over me and my future patients".

Deb continues to show passion with every patient she has. She has a lot of homeless patients. She pays for their meds and always treats them like they are special no matter the situation and arranging bus rides and calling for available shelter. I watch her everyday sitting in front of the patients with full attention and compassion that runs deep. I love that she is a nurse here at Winchester Medical Center. I think we are all lucky to have her as a nurse. I know Im the luckiest of all because shes my sister. I hope that I am looked at through patients eyes the way they see her. Debbie has been a nurse for over 25 years but still has the spark of a new nurse and passion to heal. Debbie is in the right field of work. She not only displays a healing hand, she truly gives her heart as well. True nursing isn't a 8-12 hour shift, its never ending.
