Debbie insisted on being a patient advocate and advocated for the patient to spend the night.
We had a pediatric patient that presented for a tonsilloadenoidectomy, that did not meet the criteria to be discharged home. Debbie insisted on being a patient advocate and advocated for the patient to spend the night. Debbie took into account the patient’s physical presentation as well as the limited resources that this patient would have at home. Debbie was very aware of her surroundings and took in the home environment this patient would have gone home to and pushed for him to stay the night for observation. This takes skill beyond just treating the patient and discharging them, but also paying attention to patient needs and demographics to keep our patients safe.
