His immediate referral and active listening to my concerns had prevented any hypovolemic shock that could happen.
My brother, with a case of Cerebral Palsy, was admitted to SLU Sacred Heart Medical Center for a dental procedure. Post-op he had recurrent seizures and too much bleeding from his mouth. Nurse Mandy was on duty that day and he was there for us. Frequent oral suctioning was done and he even recommended doing mouth packing to stop the bleeding from my brother’s mouth. I was already under high stress and anxiety because the bleeding wouldn't stop and a total of 2 bottles of secretions with blood was already collected within just a few hours. Nurse Mandy immediately referred to the ROD (Resident-on-duty) about my brother’s situation and tranexamic acid medication was given. His immediate referral and active listening to my concerns had prevented any hypovolemic shock that could happen as my bother is anemic also. So that I could still give my brother’s medication, Nurse Mandy aseptically inserted NGT as per the order of the ROD. Upon NGT insertion, there was no burburythmic sound heard so I suggested doing a portable Chest + Abdominal X-ray; for NGT placement confirmation and he listened and acted without delay. A portable Chest + Abdominal X-ray was done and was found that my brother had small bowel ileus and enema was administered as ordered by the ROD. This helped a lot as my brother cannot verbalize his feelings. I am very happy and satisfied with Nurse Mandy’s teamwork and collaboration with the RODs and me as the primary caregiver to my brother because he was able to manage my brother’s current condition without delay. I find Nurse Mandy as the Best Nurse for my brother’s condition.

NURSE MANDY’S Characteristics: 1. He is caring, always assessing my brother’s condition. 2. With effective Problem-Solving Skills - He is always practicing ABCs (Airway, Breathing, Circulation) which is a top priority needed to ensure a patient’s well-being and survival of my brother. 3. Excellent Teamwork - Nurse Mandy listens to me and accepts my suggestions in his patient care for my brother. When I suggested doing a portable Chest and Abdominal X-ray, he gladly accepted and executed it. 4. Sense of Humor - I find Nurse Mandy as “magaan katrabaho” (easy to work with). He is relaxed and composed while dealing with critical conditions. - He always laughs and jokes around which actually helps me to relax and be calm in managing my brother’s condition. SLU-Sacred Heart Medical Center proves that Staff Nurses are all taken care of as shown by the Staff Nurses' passion and compassion in everything they do. Thank you SLU Hospital.
