When I saw Dan on the floor, my heart soared; I knew we were in good hands.
My sister’s breast cancer came out of remission, and she went from leading an active life to hospice admission with “2 weeks to live” in the course of a week. Dan always made us feel he had all the time in the world to handle her gently, time to swallow medications, time to hear our stories and share a little of his. The night she decided to move to hospice care could have been traumatic for me as her primary caregiver. When I saw Dan on the floor, my heart soared; I knew we were in good hands. He immediately let me know which disturbances he could refuse on our behalf and which routines were required. When my sister’s son arrived at 2:00 am, Dan volunteered himself to go to the emergency room entrance and walk him through security so her son could say goodbye to his mother. Our entire family felt the warmth of Dan’s compassion. Thank you, Dan, for the outstanding care that lightened our physical and emotional pain during that difficult time.
