It is a common human desire to feel seen, heard, and understood in our interactions. As faculty, that can be a tall order but Dr. Paramesh has always brought that emotional energy, intelligence, and authenticity to every interaction.
Dr. Paramesh has been an extraordinary educator, advocate, and mentor since I met her in the Fall 2020 semester. She stepped into her faculty position at KU at a lynchpin juncture for me and my peers. Tension and anxiety were high going into NRSG 911 in the early pandemic. Dr. Paramesh brought such kindness, clarity, and forthrightness to the class structure and interactions. I have to admit that as a cohort of cranky, shell-shocked, pandemic nurses, we were initially taken aback by her authentic offering of self to us as students. Despite our suspicious natures, she won us over that semester. Cohort admiration, respect, and affection for Dr. Paramesh seems universal, at least in my sphere.

Dr. Paramesh kindly agreed to be my committee chair and has been my greatest cheerleader on this road to doctoral completion. Her pedagogical approach to setting up NRSG 980 benefited not only me and her other "direct reports", but our cohort-mates as well. Friends who selected different committee chairs would frequently reach out to me for course clarification because Dr. Paramesh's 980 pedagogy was so well turned out. When my initial project unexpectedly folded just after I defended it, she helped me rapidly workshop and pitch a Plan B to the clinic. She offered shrewd, insightful feedback throughout, peppered with validating comments building up my strengths and weaknesses.

It is a common human desire to feel seen, heard, and understood in our interactions. As faculty, that can be a tall order but Dr. Paramesh has always brought that emotional energy, intelligence, and authenticity to every interaction. As the recipient of that sort of care (as a caregiver and leader myself), it is humbling to be on the receiving end of it. I always left our interactions wanting to do more, to be better. She inspired me with her way of habitually showing up resilient, perseverant, and selfless. To me, this is an astonishingly rare exemplar of leadership. I have been privileged to be its beneficiary, and I aspire to manifest these qualities myself. Working with Colleen Paramesh has been the best part of my doctoral education experience. KU is fortunate to have her.
