In preparation for COVID-19, the hospital made preparations to expand the ICU, if and when it was needed. The ED nurses were asked who would be willing to work full-time in the ICU for 2-3 weeks to gain additional training in order to take critical care patients when the ICU expanded. Colin was one of the ones who immediately said, "I'll do it". He stepped out of his comfort zone into a foreign environment, willingly with no hesitancy, not knowing what to expect. Colin embraced this experience with a positive attitude, looked at it as a challenge and a learning experience.
When performing COVID rounds in the ICU, Colin always had a smile on his face and displayed CARING which is at the heart of nursing. He worked alongside Critical Care nurses learning each and every shift. To watch Colin and all the nurses through the glass from afar, caring for the COVID patient, you could see the concern, challenges, love, and support they provided. There was not a challenge he could not overcome. Colin is a true blessing to FG patients and anyone watching him perform his nursing duties can see how much he cares for his patients.
Thank you, Colin, for your willingness to serve our patients and community in an unknown, challenging and difficult time. You are a hero!
